PM Modi to be in Uttar Pradesh : to inaugurate AIIMS Gorakhpur soon

Vinay Express News, New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Uttar Pradesh’s health-infra project – the All India Institute of Medical Sciences’ Gorakhpur branch. Built at the cost of Rs 1800 crore, the hospital will be a boost to Purvanchal Uttar Pradesh. The Government of India had approved 22 new All India Institute of Medical Sciences to be established in various states of the country. OPD services had already started in AIIMS Gorakhpur, AIIMS Raebareli, AIIMS Mangalagiri, AIIMS Nagpur and AIIMS Bathinda, while, AIIMS Bhopal, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Patna, AIIMS Raipur and AIIMS Rishikesh in Uttarakhand are already functional.

About AIIMS Gorakhpur

AIIMS, Gorakhpur is one of the new AIIMS established as a part of the initiative under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY) by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The institute was established to provide quality healthcare infrastructure to the people and attain self-sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education and training. AIIMS, Gorakhpur imparts both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in all branches of medical science and related field.

OPD services

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of AIIMS Gorakhpur on 22 July 2016. An outpatient department (OPD) along with Diagnostic and Pathology services was later started on 24 February 2019. Later that year, the Institute started with the first batch of 50 MBBS students. Since the day of commencing the OPD services, approx 1000 patients visit the OPD every day. Furthermore, its diagnostic services include Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pathology, Radiology to augment clinical services provided to the patients. COVID treatment facilities were also started from AIIMS at Raebareli and Gorakhpur during April-May, 2021 which helped the State of Uttar Pradesh to proactively serve patients of remote districts like Fatehpur, Barabanki, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Ballia, Mau and Azamgarh.

Second AIIMS In UP

The number of medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh has risen from 14 to 24 in the last six years. The work for AIIMS is also in progress in Bareilly. In addition to this, the facility of modern cancer hospitals in Varanasi is also being provided to Purvanchal. Uttar Pradesh has been working on strengthening its medical and health infrastructure. On October 25, PM Modi had inaugurated 9 medical colleges in UP. These nine medical colleges are in the districts of Siddharthnagar, Etah, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Deoria, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, and Jaunpur. The opening of the 9 medical colleges will be creating over 5,000 employment opportunities for the people. Till 2017 there were only 1900 medical seats in government medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. However, in just the last four years, more than 1900 seats have been added in the State. The Prime Minister will also be inaugurating the fertilizer factory in Gorakhpur on 7 December 2021. Gorakhpur is an important city along the banks of the Rapti river in the northeastern part of Uttar Pradesh.
